Belle’s Story in Once Upon a Time takes a lot of information from the Disney version that wasn’t in the original fairy tale. First is obviously the clothes. Secondly, is her name and the mere fact that Gaston even exsists since her name was Beauty (even though Belle is French for Beauty) in the original, nor did she have a suitor (especially one named Gaston). Here and in Disney’s version, she is an only child, where as in the original she is one of three. Also, there was a moment where she drops “the beast’s” tea cup, breaks it, and says it’s only a little “chip”, which would be the name of the little boy tea cup in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. In the original, the workers within the castle were not under the curse with the prince, only the prince himself. Everything shown about Belle after she meets and transforms the monster is all Disney’s and ABC’s interpretation as to how Belle would react to certain situations since none have been interpreted within the original story.
